Choosing materials that age beautifully
Some materials get better with age. How to choose an interior that still feels right in ten years.

New is nice, but the real test starts after a few years of use. That is when you see which materials wear and which ones gain character.
Oiled wood
Oiled wood is easy to repair locally. Lightly sand a scratch and oil it again. Lacquered wood often has to be treated as a whole.
Natural stone and ceramics
Ceramic tiles are almost indestructible. Natural stone lives with you and develops a patina. Choose consciously: should it always look the same, or may it show use?
Colour you will not tire of
Keep large surfaces calm and add colour with things that are easy to replace, such as paint, textiles and lamps.
| Material | Maintenance | Ageing |
|---|---|---|
| Oiled oak | Oil twice a year | Becomes warmer in colour |
| Ceramic tile | Cleaning only | Stays the same |
| Lime paint | Touch up every few years | Gets a soft cloudy look |
